ZENBEAM / ANDROID APP
Privacy Policy for ZenBeam
Effective date: 9 October 2026
ZenBeam is provided by Zensync. This Privacy Policy explains how the ZenBeam Android app handles information when you discover nearby devices, exchange files and messages, and access shared folders.
1. Information ZenBeam uses
ZenBeam does not require an account, email address or phone number to use its Android features.
To provide its functionality, the app processes:
- Profile information: your display name and optional profile picture. Your device model may be used as the initial display name.
- Connection information: local network addresses, connection details, an app-generated device identifier, and certificate information used to identify devices.
- BeamWeb information: your saved five-character key and a derived identifier used to find and connect with devices in the same BeamWeb.
- Files and messages: content you choose to send, content received from other users, and files or folder listings you access through Drive.
- Local records and preferences: chat history, transfer history, file names, sizes, checksums, saved file locations, timestamps and app settings.
These details are used to discover devices, identify participants, deliver messages and files, verify transfers, and remember your preferences.
2. Local transfers and sharing
ZenBeam’s core file transfers and messaging take place directly between devices on the local network. They do not pass through a Zensync cloud relay. Zensync does not receive or store these files or messages on its servers through the app.
Your profile is shared with connected participants. Messages and files are delivered to the recipients or shared folders involved in your actions. Group messages are shared with the participating group members.
Basic discovery information, including your display name and device identifier, is broadcast on the local network and may be observable by other network participants. BeamWeb filters which devices the app displays and allows to connect.
Recipients and shared-folder owners may retain copies of information you send. Deleting your local copy does not delete their copies.
3. Permissions
ZenBeam uses Android permissions and system controls for these purposes:
- Network and Wi-Fi access: discovering devices and communicating over LAN, Wi-Fi or a mobile hotspot.
- File and folder access: reading files you select, saving received files, and accessing a receive folder you authorize.
- Notifications and foreground service access: showing transfer progress and allowing an active transfer to continue while the app is in the background.
- Storage access on older Android versions: supporting file storage where required by the operating system.
You can manage permissions through Android settings. Restricting a permission may prevent the related feature from working.
4. Storage, retention and deletion
ZenBeam stores its settings, profile, BeamWeb membership, chat history and transfer records on your device. Chat and transfer history can remain after you close the app or restart your phone.
You can:
- Clear chats and transfer history using the app’s clear controls.
- Change your display name or remove your profile picture.
- Change or reset your saved BeamWeb key.
- Delete received files using your file browser.
- Remove app-managed local data through Android’s app-storage controls.
Clearing transfer history does not delete downloaded files. Files saved in Downloads or another selected folder may remain after you uninstall ZenBeam and must be deleted separately.
Incomplete transfers may leave temporary data so a transfer can resume.
Android backup is enabled in the current app. Depending on your device and backup settings, Android or your device manufacturer may back up or restore some app data. A storage location you choose may also have its own backup or synchronization features. These services operate under their providers’ policies and settings.
5. Security
ZenBeam uses encrypted connections for file, message and shared-folder communication, together with device certificates and file-integrity checks.
Local discovery broadcasts are separate from these encrypted connections. The short BeamWeb key is intended to group devices and is not a strong security password. Use ZenBeam on networks and with participants you trust.
No method of transmission or storage can guarantee complete security.
6. Advertising, analytics and external services
The current Android app does not include advertising, advertising identifiers, or third-party analytics and crash-reporting SDKs. We do not sell personal information processed by the app.
If you open an external link, such as Instagram, that service handles information according to its own privacy policy. Google Play and Android may independently process information under Google’s policies.
If you contact us for support, we receive the information you choose to provide, such as your email address, messages or screenshots. We use it to respond to your request and retain it as needed to resolve the enquiry or meet applicable obligations. You may contact us to request deletion of support information.
7. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy when ZenBeam’s features or data practices change. The updated policy will be published on this page with a revised effective date.
